Children’s Ministry at St. Philip Lutheran Church

Welcome to St. Philip Lutheran Church’s website. St. Philip Lutheran Church is a Christian church, following the teachings of Martin Luther. We are church who believes strongly in God’s love and forgiveness, what we call grace. This is why we work to intentionally build relationships through Christ to grow and serve.

Our goal is to teach children about Jesus and God’s love for them.

We would love to have the opportunity to meet you and your family. Please feel free to reach out to Pastor Brad Doty or Melinda Svenkerud, our Children, Youth and Family Director.

We are located in the Columbine Hills community, at the corner of Kendall and Ken Caryl.

Below you will find information on our programs and ministries for children. If you are also interested in learning about worship at St. Philip, youth ministry for a middle school or high school student or learning about our Sharing with Sheridan Food Pantry, please click on the links.

Children’s Ministry Events

Sunday school for all children in Pre-K through 6th grade

Every Sunday @ 10:15am (September-May) we will explore our faith in a Large Group/Small Group setting. Each week we will meet in Fellowship Hall for our large group. We will split off into small groups to dig deeper into our lesson! The lesson theme changes throughout the year and are all Bible based for the kids to build a foundation of faith.

For more information or to volunteer please contact:

Puppet Praise Ministry

Ever wanted to try out puppetry??

This is your chance!

All are welcome!!

Puppet Praise Ministry is an opportunity for kids to have fun with puppets. At each event, the kids learn how to put on a puppet show and practice with puppets as they get ready to put on a puppet show. This ministry gives children the opportunity to bring the Word of God to others through puppets.

Open to all kids entering 1st grade and up!

Click here to email Melinda if you are interested.

Trunk-or-Treat

Each year, St. Philip hosts a Trunk-or-Treat for the community. We have trunks that are decorated in fun themes throughout the north side of the parking lot, for the children to trick-or-treat around.

Get your costumes ready and join us for the St. Philip Lutheran Church Trunk-or-Treat! The free activities will include outdoor trick-or-treating and fun! Kids are invited to come in costume and bring a trick-or-treat bag because you will get a bunch of candy.

If you would like to host a trunk/table/whatever, volunteer in general (help decorate, direct traffic, etc.) or donate candy or gift cards, contact Melinda at msvenkerud@stphilip-co.org

We hope you will join us for a spooktacular good time!

Vacation Bible School

St. Philip Lutheran Church hosts Vacation Bible School (VBS) each summer for kids 4 years old through 5th grade – for FREE! All are welcome to join us for VBS. You do not have to be part of the church to join for this wonderful week of music, games, Bible study, crafts and fun. Older kids, youth, adults and seniors are encouraged to volunteer. Last year we had just under 100 kids with over 50 volunteers! Each year, we partner with Rainbow Trail Lutheran Camp to offer to best music, curriculum and leadership! This summer, Vacation Bible School will be July 6-10, 2026 from 9am-noon. Click here to register. We are so excited to welcome your children into our church home to play and learn about God’s love.
