Constitution Updates

Your church council set up a task force comprised of Becky Near and Liz Watts to review our St. Philip Constitution and bring it into conformity with the proposed changes of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America’s model constitution. Every other year following the bi-annual meeting of the ELCA in assembly, there are updates that congregations of the ELCA are asked to make. We have not updated our constitution since 1997, so we are very out-of-date.

Attached you will find a copy of the proposed changes to our constitution approved by our church council and Jody Hoelter, Rocky Mountain Synod Secretary. It will also be posted on the St. Philip Lutheran Church Website. Please read through these proposed changes and come to our November congregation meeting. (We will be setting the specific date at our next church council meeting.) Reasons for the changes are highlighted in bold in the attached document. If you have questions about any of these changes, you can ask Pastor Nathan, Becky Near, or Liz Watts.

It will take a 2/3 majority vote of those present and voting at this November meeting, followed by a second simple majority ratification vote at our February congregation meeting to make these changes to our St. Philip constitution.

Thanks for your willingness to be a part of this process and keep our congregation up-to-date with our constitution.
